The Astrophysics Group in the School of Physics at Bristol is active in several research areas. It specialises in cosmology, the formation of clusters and galaxies, active galaxies, high-energy astrophysical processes, and the formation of extrasolar planets.

Observational work in the Group uses large ground-based and satellite telescopes from the radio to the X-ray bands. Theoretical work is tied closely to the interpretation of these data.

The Ghana Space Science and Technology Institute (GSSTI) is a research and development establishment under the Ghana Atomic Energy Commission (GAEC) of the Ministry of Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation (MESTI). It was established in January 2011 and officially launched in May 2012 with the mandate to exploit space science and technology potentials for socio-economic development of the country. The Institute currently has staff strength of 28 people made up of Research Scientists, Technologists, Technicians, Administrative Staff and Students. Radio Astronomy & Astrophysics; Satellite Communications & Engineering; and Remote Sensing & Climate are the three main departments under GSSTI.

GSSTI is officially coordinating and leading astronomy and space science related technologies projects, programmes, research and developments in Ghana. Currently, GSSTI is operating the Ghana Radio Astronomy Observatory (GRAO) located at Kuntunse a suburb of Accra on behalf of the state. GRAO is the first radio observatory in Africa outside South Africa. The 32m-diameter radio telescope at GRAO is a converted and refurbished redundant satellite telecommunications Earth station antenna done in collaboration with the South African Radio Astronomy Observatory (SARAO). The Ghana 32m-diameter radio telescope is the first converted dish of the proposed African VLBI Network (AVN) of telescopes project to be built across the Square Kilometer Array (SKA) Africa partner countries.

Director of GSSTI: Prof. Dickson Adomako

The National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) is the largest University in Mexico, both for teaching and research. It was created in its present form in 1910, as a liberal alternative to its predecessor, the Royal and Pontifical University of Mexico – itself created in 1551 by Charles I of Spain, and generally considered to be the first university officially founded in North America.

UNAM has two Astrophysics Institutes, one in Mexico City and Ensenada, and the other in Morelia, with a combined total of about 105 permanent staff members. They work in collaboration with numerous students, post-docs, and technical staff on areas covering all fields of modern astrophysics. In addition, UNAM operates an optical observatory located in Baja California, and has access to the Large Millimeter Telescope, the High Altitude Water Cherenkov Observatory (both in the Mexican State of Puebla) as well many other facilities throughout the world.
